Cream biscuits, some Real Reviews team members got talking about how several biscuit brands are coming out with seemingly premium biscuits that may look fancy in their packaging but eventually disappoint in terms of flavor. And with new ones cropping up faster than we can hardly keep count, we’re making life easier for you by taking a few most visible brands and giving you our take on them. So before you give in to the hype and pick up these brands (if you haven’t already), we decided to pick up some fancy-looking biscuits with a slightly above average price tag and see whether they deliver what they claim. We were in for a sweet but disappointing time. Britannia Pure Magic Praline Creme Weight: 104 gm (9 pieces) Price: Rs. 25 Claim: ‘Indulgent Praline Chocolate Caressing Crisp Chocolaty Biscuits’ The Verdict: Erotic biscuit imagery apart (caressing, really?), these biscuits are just plain bad and can put you off Pure Magic for good. Unlike the chocolate and vanilla flavours which we have come to like if not love, the praline flavour is just very off the mark. Praline is actually a mixture of nuts and sugar syrup but you don’t get any of that caramely goodness or nuttiness from these biscuits. The biscuit-cream ratio is completely unacceptable, especially given the misleading visual on the packaging. Expect a small sliver of cream in the centre which tastes more like cheap icing sugar with a dash of nuttiness that might please Ferrero Rocher fans at the most. Rating: 3/10 Buy Again? NO Britannia Good Day Fresh Bake Butter Scotch Cookies Weight: 75 gm (9 pieces) Price: Rs. 25 Claim: ‘Deliciously crunchy butterscotch crystals swirling in the luxurious smoothness of butter. Indulge your senses with cookies that bring together magical ingredients generously baked to perfection.’ The Verdict: First impressions are good – the cookies are well-baked, crumbly and the light golden color is pleasing to the eye. Doesn’t have an oily surface but you can taste the butteriness that is well-balanced with the butterscotch flavour. Overall light to taste and makes you want to dip them in a cup of tea. Would like to taste some more butterscotch crystals in the biscuits though. Despite being vegetarian, they somehow give off an eggy smell. Rating: 5/10 Buy Again? Not really, prefer other Good Day biscuits Sunfeast Dark Fantasy Choco Fills Weight: 75 gm (6 pieces) Price: Rs. 30 Claim: ‘Savour the taste of bliss as you bite into the new Sunfeast Dark Fantasy Choco Fills biscuit. The sun-baked rich crust enrobes the purest of smooth choco cream made to mesmerise your tastebuds. Indulge your senses with the heavenly taste of Sunfeast Dark Fantasy Choco Fills.’ The Verdict: What were they thinking??!! These measly looking biscuits hardly live up to the luxurious visual on the packaging. The biscuit tastes like half-baked cookie dough – very unappetizing. Don’t expect a dark chocolate hit – the cream inside is sweet and tastes kinda cheap. It may have its fans among children and the individual packets make them a good tiffin option. Sunfeast would have done better to target kids with these biscuits – branding is totally off. Rating: 2/10 Buy Again? NO Parle Hide & Seek Milano Weight: 75 gm (6 pieces) Price: Rs. 20 Claim: ‘Deliciously rich chocolate chip cookies’ The Verdict: Just plain chocolate chip cookies, nothing exceptional. Much like actor Hrithik Roshan who featured in the Milano TV commercial, these cookies look pretty impressive at first sight but your interest wears off quickly after you get a taste. The trademark Hide & Seek chocolate chips are not bad but do little to redeem these cookies which just cannot live up to the hype. Rating: 5/10 Buy Again?
