In this video Real Reviews intern Krushabh Sanghavi reviews select features of his latest phone, the Moto G (GSM), which he feels is total value for money for this mid-range phone from ‘Motorola’s comeback range’.

Features that wow:

There were three main things that drew Krushabh to the Moto G, the size (4.5-inches), the Android Jelly Bean OS upgradable to v4.4.3 (KitKat)  – Android is the platform Krushabh feels most comfortable with – and the slow-motion video feature. He is happy that even for a mid-range phone as the Moto G, Motorola has incorporated this winning feature from the high-end Moto X. However, since the rear camera is only 5 megapixels, the footage is not very crisp in either daylight, or low-light, in which case it is extremely grainy.

Another noteworthy and practical design feature, Krushabh feels, is the placement of the headphone jack in the centre that saves him a lot of hassle and irritation as the headphones do not come away from the slot every time he slips the phone into his pocket.

Features that limit:

The phone comes in two versions – 8 GB and 16 GB – and does not have an external memory card slot. That’s why Krushabh went in for the 16 GB version that costs Rs.14,999 compared to the 8 GB version that costs Rs 12,999.

Another drawback is the fact that the phone memory cannot be removed so if the phone hangs, you have to take it to the service centre to get things sorted, and that can be inconvenient.

In terms of performance, his phone works well in most departments. Most games run smoothly too, but ones with higher graphics seem to slow down the phone somewhat.

His verdict: Compared to other Android phones in this price category, Krushabh finds the Moto G a much better bet. He says in the closing of the video, “Even if I had to pay Rs.20,000 for this phone, I’d still find it value for money.”
